What is the meaning of life? What is the purpose of life?
These questions have intrigued and fascinated man since the dawn of time and have led to countless theories and conclusions. Spiritually the collective life purpose of all human beings is to learn to love and care for one another, however, we also have our own unique individual life purpose.
My belief is that the questions raised above should be reworded to ask what is the meaning in life and what is my purpose in life? Changing the ‘of’ to an ‘in’ helps us to understand these questions in a more realistic way from the individual human perspective. These questions also open up to the true nature as to how we as human beings are meant to live our lives and by discovering our soul’s individual personal agenda and intention, we can learn to find the meaning and purpose of life.
Finding the meaning in life begins with understanding what our soul’s purpose is. Our destiny is to find our soul’s purposes and pursue them. So how do you find your individual life purpose? The clue to your journey can be found through your interests, hobbies, gifts, talents and passions. I am sure everyone can agree that it is important to do things in your life that bring you happiness and pleasure. As you push yourself forward to achieve your dreams and engage with your passions you will experience a sense of achievement and true happiness. It is said that if you do what you enjoy linking your passions, gifts and talents to your career then you will feel like you never do a day’s work in your life.
Life can be changeable and inconsistent; sometimes it seems like everything is going well for us and sometimes it feels the complete opposite, especially when we face challenging times. When life feels hard or unmanageable how can we find inner peace? We all have to face adversity and these life challenges are sent to help us so that we can grow. When we overcome our challenges we gain new skills and tools to help us to cope with new challenges. Feeling like we can cope through hard times gives us the courage and confidence to face other challenges and move forward in life.
If we learn from the hard times, seeing the lessons rather than the pain, then we develop, we grow and this in turn strengthens and empowers us.
I have learned that to sucessfully journey through life, we need coping skills, mental strength and agility, faith, hope, a positive and growth mindset, desire, focus and trust, and a strong belief in oneself. (I am sure there are many other competencies that I could also add to this list.) Making the decision to focus on ourselves by developing self development practices is the recipe to living a happy life and this gives meaning to our life.
The decision to take a spiritual journey means taking the road less travelled. It means working hard to change yourself, resisting behaviour patterns that don't serve you and going with the flow of life; which sometimes means blindly trusting in your journey. When you take yourself out of your comfort zone in the knowledge that this is for your highest good, this then becomes your winning formula for success.
As a sensitive and empathic soul, I have struggled over the years with my mental health and finding balance in my life. My journey to lasting happiness, calmness and enlightenment has been imperative to my wellbeing and however hard this has been at times, I have always been committed to this end. What I have discovered is that when I nurture and care for myself by spending time learning and growing from difficult situations, I am able to move forward stronger and even more empowered. From this springs inner peace one of my most valuable assets.
Over the last 30 years my spiritual and personal development journey has shown me the meaning in my life and a pathway to happiness. If we follow our soul’s purpose, my belief is that we feel fulfilled and happy, a sense of bringing heaven down to earth.
Always remember that peace in the world begins with making peace with yourself.
