How To Live Your Best Life

Do you make promises to yourself that you don’t keep, do you keep losing your temper, are you eating too much junk food, over indulging, overspending, working more hours than is necessary, are you addicted to exercise, overthinking, do you have obsessive thoughts, are you feeling depressed or anxious?

Are you not taking enough ‘me’ time?

Do you feel stuck?

Have you had enough?

Sometimes, we go off on a tangent and find it hard to rein ourselves back in.  Sometimes we’re lost in a negative cycle.

We may not consciously be aware of the long term negative effect of our behaviour because in the moment, we tell ourselves that it's manageable and because we may not feel that we have the mental strength to restrict ourselves, we continue on, feeling that we aren’t ready or able to make any changes.

In my last blog, I talked about the importance of parenting ourselves.  The Mother energy brings nurturing, balance and caring whilst the father energy brings self-discipline, boundaries and protection. Being parents to ourselves is the key to us living our best life.

This article highlights the importance of being a father to ourselves through self-discipline. By restricting behaviour that doesn't support us, we can find a positive pathway to reach our goals and dreams and live our best life.

It is important when we feel a slave to certain behaviours that we restrict ourselves and instil a positive mindset which will impact positively on our general wellbeing.

The antidote for our negative behaviour patterns is to restrict thus bringing ourselves back into balance.

Living your best life will obviously bring you the happiness that you deserve. This will have a positive impact on all of your relationships including the one with yourself. With balance, we can create more time for the things we enjoy and so in turn, we feel happier and healthier in our mind, body and spirit.

Working on yourself is a mammoth task and there are no shortcuts, it takes hard work, commitment, consistency and perseverance but you will discover that the results can be extraordinary.  It is like anything practice makes perfect.

Just one day at a time, small steps….

Creating balance through self improvement takes continual self-monitoring.

The mind is a very powerful tool and we can make it our best friend if we nurture it. If we feed it positivity then it will respond positively. We can create thoughts that serve us or not, it is a decision, our decision.

With practice we can become aware of our shortcomings and recognise when we feel guided to make adjustments to ourselves and to our lifestyle by restricting ourselves. It is like any muscle that we work on in our body, if we are consistent, we can build mental strength.

We all have choices; we can decide to keep doing the things that we’ve always done and keep getting the same results or we can decide to change our mind.  We can decide to do things differently to reach our goals and take ourselves outside of our comfort zone.  We can learn to restrict the behaviours that don’t serve us and we can do this by being present in the moment when making decisions.  It is not easy to restrict but like all things it takes practice.

This all sounds good in principle, but how do we even begin to do this?

I believe that you have 4 choices;

  1. Carry on the way you are because that feels comfortable;

  2. Restrict a little bit, but you might find it hard to sustain resisting future temptations;

  3. Completely restrict, but like number 2. you could get tempted back into old ways, or;

  4. Face up to your negative behaviours and consciously make a decision to stop and keep practising stopping whilst learning new positive behaviours and the more you practise, the more proficient you will be.

Using NLP Life Coaching Techniques I have discovered ways that work, that keep you focused and stop you from quitting on yourself.

I believe with the right mindset anything is possible!  If you are ready for the challenge, hard work and determined action, you will succeed.
