Mind your own business
Life is fast-paced and with the news and social media providing a constant flow of information, it is easy to get drawn in, confused and distracted by it. I think that most people would agree that the state of our world is dark and it is easy to get lost down rabbit holes searching for the truth. As we are bombarded with information on a daily basis, spending time mulling over the state of our world not only causes stress but it distracts us from what we need to do in our own lives.
In truth, this news is designed to be alarming and as we largely have no control over the information that we hear about, namely; climate change, politics, junk food, drug companies, the health service, education, the craziness of Hollywood, Covid Vaccines (I could literally go on and on) it is not good to take it to much to heart.
Even when I am doing some honest research on the internet I find it confusing as there are so many conflicting opinions on seemingly every day subjects like health, exercise and diet.
I read an article recently that talked about the constant stress and the negative effects that news and social media have on our body and general wellbeing. It said that we are overloaded with news and this has a negative impact on us at a cellular level. Which means it literally makes us physically or mentally ill. As a sensitive person, I am aware of how the news and social media affect me. Social Media is a known cause of depression and social anxiety. I do not personally watch the news as I don’t like how I feel whilst watching it and then for the many days or weeks afterwards. I also realise that I have no control over any of these situations. So I consciously detach myself as a way of self-protection. I see this self-protection as an act of love, self-love.
I feel it is a better use of my time to focus on my own inner world. My late father always used to say that I should mind my own business. He didn’t mean it in a rude way but rather to take care of my own life and this advice makes so much sense. It's so easy to become focussed on things that aren’t within our control by allowing ourselves to become distracted, we can end up not doing the things that we need to do.
How do you find the time to be creative, discover new ideas, make plans for your future if your head is full of things that are of no consequence to you?
How much stress are you feeling after you hear shocking news or you sit and ponder on the state of the world?
When you think about it, thinking about it too much is actually pointless and that is why self-focus, self-improvement and self-love are much more important and healthier topics to think about.
Spending time in nature creates the ideal environment to switch off from all the noise, the pressure and the negativity and simply enjoy the stillness and the calming energy that it brings. It is so important to reconnect and become one with ourselves so that we can reach a place of inner peace and this is beneficial in so many ways. In this space we can be creative and make improvements in our lives.
Create balance by being aware of what is happening in your environment but do not become attached to it, be knowledgeable whilst remaining focussed on yourself.
Let it go and don’t be distracted!
